Consumer Connection and Education
Another major goal of the CWA was to promote consumer education of the agriculture industry. Many CWA chapters participated in Supermarket Saturday, an event where CWA members met consumers in their communities to encourage them to eat more fruits and vegetables and to answer their questions about agriculture. CWA members offered consumers samples of fresh produce including nectarines, cantaloupes, and bell peppers, along with brochures about agriculture data. Additionally, they used the Agriculture California’s Gold logo to convey the theme that agriculture, like California gold, was one of California’s greatest treasures. The CWA was also instrumental in providing consumers with recipes, food and agriculture reports, and information about agriculture concerns, such as the infestation of the Mediterranean fruit fly.
