National Agriculture Day and Week
One of the achievements of the CWA is promotion of agriculture education in their communities was through the National Agricultural Day initiative. The United States Congress and President Reagan signed into law the National Agriculture Day proclamation on October 14, 1982. It has been celebrated since 1973 as an effort to recognize and praise farm suppliers, growers, and the millions of other people involved in agriculture, as well as observe the economic health of agriculture. The primary theme of National Agriculture Day was “America’s Heartbeat” to describe the “food chain as a human chain,” involving, at the core, the people who develop it. Agriculture Day was coordinated in association with the American Council of American Education Foundation. The CWA publicized Agriculture Day largely through local television advertisement, radio stations, newsletters, magazines, and handouts. The CWA appointed an Agriculture Day Chairman at the state level to develop Agriculture Day programs, such as a poster contest and luncheon.
